Speaking Anxiety among Single-Gender and Co-Educational Schools Students in an Online Learning Context

Speaking anxiety is the fear of utilizing language orally and it believed to be affected by gender as distractions counterpart in co-educational schools could trigger speaking English. Moreover, due COVID-19 Pandemic, educational institutes have shifted online learning which also contribute anxiety. Many studies been carried out on among learners. However, best our knowledge, students single-gender an context has not explored. Therefore, this study aims investigate students’ three different gender-based types schools. We adopted a mixed-method research design. The participants were 180 for surveys 12 interviews. instruments used English Second Language Anxiety Scale (ESLSAS) adapted from Hwa Peck (2017) administered through Google Forms virtual semi-structured interviews conducted via meeting platforms. analyzed employing descriptive inferential analysis whereas content analysis. findings revealed that majority experienced low levels, female higher levels than their gender, there was statistically significant difference between mean scores Additionally, within schools, significantly higher. results indicated sources coping strategies employed students. This provides pedagogical implications educators.
